Having fun can often involve a bit of mess. The aftermath of a great time with friends can remain as a happy reminder of happy moments… Until the next party, that is. If you’re days (or even hours) away from having a party and need some ideas to get the place clean and keep it that way, you’re in luck. The following simple cleaning tips will have you prepared and help you to enjoy your next party without the stress and constant fear of a leak, spill or other party-related accident.
Removing the Last Party’s Stains
Having a fun party will inevitably mean some kind of spillage. But, when it happens, keep calm and act fast. According to carpet experts Stainmaster Carpet, who speak from 25 years of experience, speed is of the essence. Scoop as much of the mess up as possible and blot the stain – don’t ever rub! Apply warm water and continue blotting. Finish by covering the area with weighted paper towels, leaving it overnight, and praying to the carpet deities.
Outside is the Right Side
If you really don’t want to live in fear of stains (especially on your beautiful white shagpile carpet) then consider holding your party outside. Why spend the entire duration of your indoor party stressing out, which your guests will almost certainly pick up on, when you can party like it’s 1999 in the garden without fear of a wine glass getting knocked over?
Use Disposable Plates, Cups and Cutlery
Don’t shudder in horror at the potential damage to the environment; there are many different eco-friendly disposable party supplies on the market. Plus, when the party’s over, you can simply wander around throwing the debris into a recycling bag. Quick, easy and guilt-free – you’ll have the place cleaned up in no time at all.
Invite Conscientious Guests
Some of your friends are the type of guests who are considerate of the party environment and will help to keep your party (relatively) mess-free. They are the ones who will, without even being asked, flit from room to room, picking up old plates and empty glasses. They’re the ones who will stay back afterwards and help you clean up and wash up. They are no less than angels and you should always, always invite them to your gatherings.
Keep the Bins in Sight
This may seem like a weird idea at first but people are generally more likely to use a bin if they can see one. So make sure you place a number of sturdy bins, clearly labelled for recycling and general waste, around the party zone. A good spot is next to doors, though not in the way of foot traffic. Be sure to empty them regularly if the party is on a particularly large scale.
Give it Away
One of the greatest cleaning tips is to get the guests to take left-overs away with them. Be sure to have some nifty take-away containers and several rolls of aluminium foil at hand. “You’re leaving already? So sad! Here, take this slice of tasty cake with you.” Suddenly the party’s over and all the guests have left, leaving you with no food to clean up. Marvellous.
